RANJIT DESHMUKH

Ranjit Deshmukh’s artistic journey began with the traditional craft of Ganpati murti making, where he developed an early and lasting relationship with form, volume, and material. Immersed in this tactile process from a young age, he became deeply attentive to rhythm, proportion, and the interplay of light and shadow across surfaces.
What initially appeared to him as a “magical play” of forms gradually evolved into a disciplined sculptural language. The repetitive gestures and physical engagement with material laid the foundation for his sensitivity toward balance and harmony. Over time, these early experiences shaped his understanding of sculpture not as construction, but as discovery.
Nature remains Deshmukh’s most enduring influence—not merely as subject matter, but as a teacher. He observes natural forms for lessons in rhythm, proportion, and quiet order. Guided by the principle of seeing objects as they are, he allows forms to arise intuitively, without unnecessary addition or alteration.
Deshmukh believes that “the artwork happens by me; the only reason is condition,” expressing his trust in process and presence. Sculpture, for him, is a dialogue between mind and material. As he notes, “In stone, space, my mind gets transformation; in my space, stone receives expression.” This reciprocal relationship defines his practice.
Through this interaction, sculpture becomes a space of transformation—both physical and mental. Each work is approached as an experience of appreciation rather than assertion, inviting viewers into a state of pure seeing. His sculptures carry a quiet joy, where stone and consciousness meet in balanced awareness.
